Frequently asked questions.

Common questions about this template and how it works.

How does Morta track changes, variations and claims?

Morta provides a unified change tracker where all changes — whether design changes, site instructions, compensation events or claims — are managed in a single place. Each change record tracks the full lifecycle from identification through assessment, approval and implementation, with linked cost and programme impacts.

How are compensation events managed?

Compensation events are tracked in a dedicated register with fields for notification date, quotation, assessment and implementation. The tracker supports NEC4 clause 60-65 workflows including early warning linkage, time-bar monitoring and forecast impact on the target cost and completion date.

How does variation management work?

Variations are tracked from instruction through pricing to agreement. Each variation record links to the originating instruction, tracks the cost and time impact, and feeds into the contract change to forecast view so your commercial team always has an up-to-date picture of the final account position.

How does Morta handle early warnings?

Morta provides an early warning register where potential risks and changes are recorded as soon as they are identified. Early warnings can be linked to subsequent compensation events or instructions, providing a full audit trail from first identification through to resolution.

How does the contract change to forecast work?

The contract change to forecast view aggregates all pending and approved changes to show their cumulative impact on your project budget and programme. This gives commercial and project managers a real-time view of where the final account is heading, enabling proactive decision-making.

Can Morta import from Excel?

Yes. You can import data directly from Excel spreadsheets into Morta. This makes it easy to migrate existing trackers, registers, and datasets without manual re-entry.

Can Morta export to Word and Excel?

Yes. Morta supports exports to both Excel and Word formats. Exports can be configured to match your company brand styling, so reports and deliverables are ready to share without additional formatting.

If a change isn't captured when it happens, it's captured by your margin. That's the only question.

Commercial Construction
One of our most successful implementations has been using Morta to track agency labour. We’ve got about 20-odd people inputting into this project. It’s just running in the background. Everyone’s getting on with it, and it works beautifully.

With Morta and IFC Open Shell, we’re saving 114 hours of manual effort per validation cycle.

Information Management Consultancy
This is still a work in progress. Our goal is full automation where design teams can validate independently.
DesignRequirements & Quality
I now get requests from colleagues who are Lead TAs or architects saying: I have an idea for Morta. Can we do this? Can we test that? It’s really nice to see people understanding the value. This is not an IM thing. This is not a BIM thing. This is something that will benefit the whole project.

Commercial Construction
It’s no longer subjective — it’s the truth as to where we are. Morta has helped us with our checking and reporting, pulling together dashboards and giving us proper optics on what we’re doing.

Public Sector
We’re using Morta not to replace existing systems but to connect them. It creates an integrated Information Management Platform enabling a data-centric approach, KPI tracking, automation, a golden thread of data, and audit trails.
