Work with Morta

ALEC started with a proof of concept and project trials before developing its template hub. By November 2023, it was showing connected package reporting and workflows run by HR, marketing and digital-construction colleagues, alongside a prequalification test. ALEC's October 2024 digital-construction update continued to identify Morta among its tools for standardising data. The implementation stories below explain the work and the next steps identified at each stage.

The team

ALEC's digital-construction team worked with project and departmental colleagues to build resources around their responsibilities. The presentations explain both the structure behind the information and the contribution expected from each team.

Andy Boutle, Head of Digital Construction at ALEC, described ALEC's template hub, its database approach and its expansion into departmental workflows. His examples include learning the permissions model and supporting teams to run their own processes.

Abdelrhman Negm, now at Revizto, presented for ALEC and showed how the package matrix connected project-team information, planning inputs and Aconex document metadata. He explained how the team shared progress through Morta views and Power BI while restricting access to the working tables.

Case studies

A contractor's perspective on database-driven information management

Andy explains the move from repeated document handling to related tables, reusable templates and connected project information. The presentation follows the early implementation and its practical learning, including permissions, departmental adoption and the distinction between a working connection and one still being considered. It is the starting point for understanding ALEC's database approach.

Going beyond information management as a contractor

Andy returns to show how the approach extended into labour onboarding, newsletter collection and approval, and requests to Revizto. He also demonstrates prequalification in testing. This story is useful when the next use case sits outside project information management and the main concern is how another department will contribute, act and take ownership.

Connecting package information to progress

Abdelrhman's showcase follows a package matrix from its project-team source through planning and onboarding inputs to engineering-progress reporting. It explains how information held in different places can support a shared view, while retaining the distinction between manual contributions, calculated measures and the people allowed to maintain the underlying tables.
