Allan Binns has contributed to Morta’s community discussions on building safety and design evidence. At Ryder Architecture, where a November 2023 event biography identified him as Safety Director, he worked on the principal designer role and building safety responsibilities. His Morta presentation dated 22 November 2023 explored how to assign responsibility, connect evidence from common data environments and prepare information for review.
In his later Project Four presentation, Allan introduced himself as National Director. He explained how the consultancy moved from an Excel tracker to CDE connections, evidence reports and Power BI dashboards. He then showed a revised process in a test hub, keeping designers’ evidence input in the CDE and the principal designer’s review in a separate tracker.
His account emphasised clear evidence ownership and a process that fitted continuing design work. He also identified further possibilities for compliance statements, construction-phase evidence, pre-construction information packs and safety case reports.
There needs to be a distance created between the way that information is provided and information is reviewed.
