The partnership

Around 2021, Kier became the first company to use Morta for information delivery planning. Before January 2024, Kier and Morta were developing a scalable approach for strategic Ministry of Justice projects. In March 2024, they agreed an enterprise partnership; Kier introduced the approach at its Digital Forum in September and went live regionally in October. By 25 November 2024, Kier described 20 projects as live across seven parts of Kier Construction. By the August 2026 review, Kier was building on the IDP work with its supply chain.

The team

Kier's information management and digital construction team combined project delivery, automation and business leadership. Together, they developed the IDP approach, connected it to Kier's reporting systems and carried the learning from custodial projects into regional construction.

James Franklin — Head of BIM & Digital Construction, Kier Major Projects, in the published case study. James is featured in the custodial-project case study and represented Kier in Morta's contractor panel on database-driven information management.

Ashley Dawson — Digital Construction Lead, Kier Construction Strategic Projects. Ashley introduced the IM Excellence concept and the aim of connecting information across project processes.

Tom Crossley — Data & Automation Lead, Kier Construction, as confirmed in August 2026. Tom appears in both case studies, covering the custodial IDP and the later template, setup and reporting structure. His presentation roles were Senior Digital Construction Manager for Major Projects and, later, Automation Lead.

Colin Bell — Digital and Data Director, Kier Construction. Colin set out the regional challenge and the role of people, ownership and useful return in the wider change.
