Babcock International Group is a defence engineering business. Its major infrastructure programme at Devonport provided the setting for two contributions to the Morta community in 2024, connecting the value of information with practical work on checking the data delivered in models.
From information value to data assurance
An interview published in June 2024 explored information requirements, delivery dates and the consequences of missing them. A data-assurance presentation published in December 2024 described using requirements held in Morta with Python and IfcOpenShell to check model data. That work focused on alphanumeric information, with further applications in delivery planning, risk and security still being explored.
The team
The Devonport contribution came from the major infrastructure programme's BIM and digital engineering work. Its client, operator and maintainer perspective connected information requirements to the assets the organisation would use.
William Baker-Jones, who now works at Kier, was Deputy Head of BIM and Digital Engineering at Babcock International Group in 2024. He explained the business case for proactive information management and presented the data-assurance approach.

Pioneering Data Assurance
William's showcase follows a technical approach to checking model data against requirements held in Morta.
